How to use a security seal properlyproperly

Security seals are commoto secureutility meters, tractor-trailers, rail road cars, chemical drums, and vehicles in a way that provides tamper evidence and some level of security. They are single use and not reusable devices that assist in the detection of theft or contamination, either accidental or deliberate. They come in a large variety, from plastic seals, bolt seals, metal seals to cable seals and can be classified in indicative seals, security seals and high security seals (C-TPAT Compliant).

Security seals should always leave evidence of a robbery or an intention of robbery at the area where the seal was placed. They are not designed to resolve all security problems however the effectiveness of security seals strongly depends on the procedures in using them. For example, an indicative seal, when properly placed, it can offer a barrier in the same manner as a padlock, but if tampered with will leave evidence of the intention of opening or tampering in a way the padlock does not.

We recommend purchasing security seals directly from the manufacturer than distributors due to the fact that there are a lot of plain seals (with no markings) brought from overseas and it is impossible to keep track of them compared to the manufacturers that do not sell any plain seals and keep a record of each seal that is made.

Make sure to listen for a “click” sound when inserting the seals cap into the other part of the seal,
make sure the devices, hinges, and the handles that secure any doors cannot be removed without damaging the security seals. In many cases, these can be removed without any damage to the security seal that is used to seal the load. To verify if the security seal is secured; it is important to pull on each end of the seal with necessary force so that the seal is properly positioned and secure. If there is any evidence the seal has not been properly applied, another seal must be applied

Before removing the security seal, make sure that the seal has not been shrunk or falsely sealed. Always inspect the seal for strange marks or tampering. Make sure you pull the security seal in every direction. Move it to the right, left, up and down. Double check that the cap of the seal has not been tampered or damaged.
